The portfiolo is yellowed and the bottom fold is broken in places. The prints are on heavy stock and are quite suitable for framing. The certificate states that ...Thus Currier and Ives prints of early American railroad scenes become a telling background against which to depict current transportation developments. In contrasting the equipment with the latest evidence of engineering advance, we have tried to supply that element of perspective upon American railroad progress which will permit a more complete appreciation of its significance. In the development of the illustrations it was found that sometimes no Currier and IVes print in existence fitted the text. Two New York artists made etchings after the style of Currier and Ives from old photographs, wood cuts, and other source material in railroad archives, and two of the illustrations reproduced herein were developed in this manner. They are the background pictures in "Best Friend of Charleston" and "Double Heading on Old Veta Pass." The portfolio thus affords an interesting opportunity to observe what a Currier and Ives print might look like if those estimable lithographers still were in business today." Image size is approximately 11 x 13 inches. The entire print size is 14 1/2 x 17 3/4." No date.

"Temptation" is one of R.H. Palenske's best plates. In his portrayal of this amusing hunt incident, Palenske reveals his unusual perception and ability to get lifelike quality into his originals. A great etching by a famous drypoint artist."

  • Ponte Vecchio Description: By Joseph Pennell. "A medieval oddity, the Ponte Vecchio spans the Arno. Little houses perched precariously on its sides have been occupied since the fourteenth century by the Guild of Goldsmiths. It was natural that his unusual bridge in Florence should be the subject of one of his finest and most interesting plates."

Pleissner, one of America's outstanding young artists, is internationally famous for the design and form that each of his plates reveal. He is an ardent hunter and fisherman and endeared to American sportsmen."
