Life
magazine was America's answer to several European
photo/news publications such as the French
Vu.
It was not founded until 1936 by Henry Luce
(1898-1967).
It was a large format weekly until it folded
in 1978.
Although it started by copying others' ideas, Life
is under-appreciated as a showplace for great photographers.
Everyone interested in photography should have old issues of
Life and National Geographic.
Many of the great
picture-makers of the era appeared on their pages.
Estimated basic value: $2.50-$28.
