| The Brownie was the first "box camera." It was introduced in 1900 and intended for children. It sold for a whopping $1, equivalent to about $55 today. It became very popular, but mostly with non-"brownies:" adults. The Brownie #2 was released in 1902 and the folding model (#3) was introduced in 1910 by which time photography was a well established hobby.
